Five nominations out of 11 candidates who filed papers for the Chattogram-10 constituency to contest in national election have rejected, .

The Returning Officer and Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Ziauddin has made the announcement on Sunday.

The nominations of BNP’s Sayeed Al Noman and Jamaat’s Shamsuzzaman Helali have been declared valid for the seat, which cover Halishahar, Pahartali, and Khulshi areas.

Among the rejected candidates, Muhammad Ali Osman of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis was disqualified due to missing signatures on his affidavit.

Osman Gani of Bangladesh Labour Party lost his nomination for failing to submit the required deposit.

National Party candidate Muhammad Emdad’s nomination was cancelled over income tax complications.

Two independent candidates, Omar Yusuf Khan and Mohammad Arman, were also disqualified as their nomination papers lacked signatures from at least 1 percent of registered voters.

The rejected candidates have the option to appeal the decision by 9 January.
