The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revoked the no-objection certificate for Mustafizur Rahman to play in the Indian Premier League, following an emergency meeting on Sunday. The decision means Mustafizur will not be released for the IPL, even if Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) renew their request.
Mustafizur was bought by KKR at the IPL auction for INR 9.2 crore, the highest amount ever paid for a Bangladeshi player. However, on Saturday, citing security concerns after threats from extremist groups and following a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), KKR removed Mustafizur from their squad.
The incident has raised serious questions about the safety of Bangladeshi cricketers ahead of the upcoming World Cup. In response, the BCB held an emergency meeting and sent a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), requesting a change of venues for Bangladesh’s World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka.
