Mustafizur Rahman reached a rare milestone in T20 cricket on Friday, becoming the quickest pace bowler to take 400 wickets in the format during a Bangladesh Premier League match in Sylhet.
Turning out for Rangpur Riders, the left-armer arrived at the match one wicket short of the landmark. He wasted no time in getting there, removing Sylhet Titans skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz with the opening spell at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The achievement came in Mustafizur’s 315th T20 appearance, a figure that sets him apart from all other fast bowlers in the format. Pakistan’s Wahab Riaz previously held the pace-bowling benchmark, having reached 400 wickets in 335 matches.
Across all bowling types, Mustafizur now stands as the second-fastest cricketer to reach the 400-wicket mark in T20s. In doing so, he moved ahead of South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, who needed 320 matches. Only Afghanistan star Rashid Khan has achieved the feat in fewer games, reaching 400 wickets in 289 matches.
The landmark also places Mustafizur among an exclusive group, as he became just the 11th bowler in T20 history to cross the 400-wicket barrier.
Mustafizur is the second Bangladeshi player to reach the milestone, following Shakib Al Hasan, who first entered the 400-wicket club during the 2022 BPL in his 353rd match.
Despite being overtaken for speed to the milestone, Shakib remains Bangladesh’s most prolific T20 wicket-taker, with 507 wickets from 468 matches.
In the overall T20 wicket charts, Shakib currently sits fifth, while Mustafizur has secured his place inside the top ten. Rashid Khan leads the list with 685 wickets, followed by Dwayne Bravo (631) and Sunil Narine (608), with Imran Tahir fourth on 570.
