In Sylhet on Sunday, Sylhet Titans adviser Fahim al Chowdhury drew attention by openly downplaying the Bangladesh Premier League while speaking about his ambitions for the franchise, saying his focus was firmly on the Indian Premier League.
Fahim said qualification for the BPL semi-finals would trigger major investment, but suggested the domestic competition was not his primary concern.
“If Sylhet Titans qualify to the semi-final, then I will give a blank cheque,” he said. “I don’t have any time to count BPL. I think about IPL.”
The remarks highlighted a sharp contrast between the status of the BPL and the financial and competitive pull of the IPL, which Fahim clearly views as the benchmark for franchise cricket. His comments also hinted at an aggressive, global outlook should the team progress.
“India, Pakistan, I don’t care,” Fahim said. “I will bring players from any part of the world.”
Fahim’s comments have sparked debate around priorities within Bangladesh’s domestic league, with the Titans still fighting to establish consistency on the field. While BPL success remains the immediate target, his words suggested a long-term vision shaped by the scale and influence of the IPL rather than the realities of the local tournament.
