A Dhaka University (DU) student has been detained by Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities for attempting to sit an admission test as a proxy candidate.
The incident took place on Monday at around 11:50am during the third shift of the examination. Authorities detained the student from Room 402 of the School and College Building while the test was underway. They later took him to the university’s proctorial office for primary interrogation.
The detained student has been identified as Md Ehsanul Haque, a first-year honours student of the Department of Urdu at Dhaka University for the 2023–24 academic session. He is a resident student of Room 1015 at Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haq Hall.
According to university sources, invigilators detected Ehsanul Haque under suspicious circumstances while he appeared in the ‘B’ Unit admission test at the JU School and College Building. During interrogation, he admitted that he had come to take the examination on behalf of another candidate.
The registered examinee was identified as Rafid Hossain Sajid. Following the interrogation of Ehsanul Haque, the JU proctorial body also detained Rafid Hossain Sajid from in front of the JU School and College Building.
During initial questioning, Ehsanul Haque confessed that he had attempted to sit the admission test as a proxy candidate for Rafid Hossain Sajid, university sources said.
