Unidentified miscreants set fire to a Grameen Bank branch at Sharshadi Bazar in Feni Sadar upazila in the early hours of Thursday.
The fire damaged three motorbikes belonging to bank officials and furniture on the office premises.
The incident took place at around 3:30am when the attackers allegedly poured petrol from outside the main gate and ignited the blaze.
No casualties were reported, and bank officials confirmed that important documents and records remained unharmed.
Officials and employees residing on the second floor of the same building noticed the fire and immediately alerted the Fire Service.
A firefighting unit responded promptly and brought the flames under control within a short time.
Grameen Bank branch manager Moniruzzaman said three motorcycles used by bank staff were completely destroyed in the fire. “No official files or records were affected,” he said.
He said the miscreants reportedly entered the premises by scaling the boundary wall before setting fire near the gate area.
Feni Model Police Station Inspector Sajal Kanti Das said police visited the scene and initial investigations indicate the use of petrol in the arson.
“The reason behind the attack has not yet been determined,” he said, adding that a case will be filed and an investigation is underway.
Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved. Bank authorities have lodged a complaint, and further legal action will be taken accordingly.
