Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit has shared a charming story about the moment her children realised just how famous their mother is. Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Madhuri revealed that her sons, Arin and Ryan, were completely unaware of her stardom while growing up in the US.
“They knew nothing until we got back to India. One day after a movie, photographers swarmed us, and they asked, ‘Mom, what is this?’” she recounted. Over time, school friends and Indian peers helped them piece together her iconic status. Madhuri added that her sons only began appreciating her films after learning Hindi and Marathi, with her elder son asking why she had never shown him Dil To Pagal Hai.
Madhuri and husband Dr Shriram Nene moved back to Mumbai in 2011, allowing their children to connect with Indian culture and enabling Madhuri to resume her career in Indian entertainment.
She is now gearing up for the psychological thriller series ‘Mrs Deshpande’, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. Madhuri plays a convicted serial killer enlisted to catch a copycat murderer but only if she can work with her estranged son, now a detective.
The series promises a gripping blend of crime, psychology, and family drama, offering Dixit one of her most intense roles in recent years.
