The government set out its long-term sporting strategy on Tuesday as Bangladesh reached the semi finals of the Second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 and guaranteed the nation a first ever medal in the tournament, according to comments from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Bangladesh, who hosted the competition for the second time, have benefited from extended preparation, with the women’s squad undergoing long term training in the build up. That investment has been reflected in their progress, as Rupali and her team secured a place in the last four with growing confidence.
Md Mahbub Ul Alam, Secretary to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said the programme demonstrated the value of sustained development and argued that Bangladesh could push even further if they overcome Chinese Taipei in the semi finals. He added that the ultimate ambition was to challenge for gold.
Mahbub Ul Alam said the lessons from recent international events, including the Kabaddi World Cup, the Asian Youth Games and the Islamic Solidarity Games, were shaping a broader government plan aimed at raising standards across all sports. Long term coaching, improved infrastructure and the wider use of sports science have become central pillars of that approach.
Among the projects already under way are the construction of mini stadiums in 201 upazilas, upgrades to district facilities and plans for several new international standard venues in and around Dhaka. The government also intends to establish the Bangladesh Sports Institute near BKSP as a national centre for long term training, with consultants already appointed ahead of the design phase.
Mahbub Ul Alam said the successful delivery of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup underlined Bangladesh’s growing capability as an international host. He praised the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation for its organisation and highlighted recent experience in staging events in volleyball, archery and football. The secretary added that the professionalism shown throughout the 11 nation tournament would encourage further bids to host major competitions in the future.
