Three people died from dengue in the past 24 hours across the country, raising this year’s death toll from the Aedes mosquito–borne disease to 356.
The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services disclosed the figures in a press release on Saturday.
According to the Directorate, 593 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide between 8am Friday and 8am Saturday, while 628 patients were discharged during the same period.
Of those admitted in the past 24 hours, 90 were in Barishal (outside the city), 97 in Chattogram, 88 in Dhaka (outside the city), 211 in Dhaka North City, 78 in Dhaka South City, 32 in Khulna (outside the city), 53 in Mymensingh (outside the city), 48 in Rajshahi (outside the city) and 29 in Sylhet (outside the city).
Between 1 January and 20 November this year, the country recorded 89,486 dengue cases, with 86,331 people recovering during the same period.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths were recorded.
The Directorate noted that data on dengue hospitalisations and deaths have been maintained since 2000, with the highest numbers reported in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died from the disease.
