Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum has directed all government hospitals to ensure comprehensive treatment for individuals injured in Friday’s earthquake.

She issued the directive while visiting patients receiving care at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday afternoon.

During her visit, she inquired about the condition of the injured and later briefed journalists.

She said they have instructed every hospital to ensure there is no negligence in treating those injured in the earthquake. All public hospitals have been given clear directives.

The tremor measured around 5.2 in some areas, but the number of injuries is higher than expected. Some students in Dhaka were hurt after jumping from the second or third floor in panic. “We are working collectively to provide proper care,” she said.

Nurjahan Begum noted that two Dhaka University students were currently admitted with injuries. A child has died, and the father is critically injured.Three people, including a medical student, have died in Mitford.

“We are receiving reports of injuries from several districts. Multiple people in Gazipur have been hurt. Many came to hospitals out of panic, and doctors have treated them accordingly. Some showed panic-related symptoms, while others with physical injuries are receiving full medical attention,” she added.

According to DMCH sources, a total of 41 people sought treatment there up to 2:45pm. Six patients, including two Dhaka University students, were admitted, while the rest received first aid and were discharged.
