Four Star Group behind Pallabi Jubo Dal leader murder: RAB

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-4) has arrested two top criminals in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal Member Secretary Golam Kibria, 50, in the capital’s Pallabi area.

The arrested individuals are Md Monir Hossain alias Sohel alias Pata Sohel, 30, the alleged mastermind who ordered and planned the killing; and Md Sujon alias Bukpora Sujon, 35, a top accused in 18 cases.

Sohel was arrested from Savar’s Birulia area on Tuesday night, while Sujon was arrested from Tongi the same night. RAB-4 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md Mahbub Alam made the disclosure on Wednesday at a press conference held at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar.

According to RAB, the murder was rooted in political conflict and establishing dominance in Pallabi. They stated the killing was premeditated and involved a large financial transaction. Both arrestees are active members of the “Four Star Group,” a criminal syndicate based in Mirpur.

He stated that Sohel made a deal for Tk30,000 for the murder, paying an advance of Tk1,000 and supplying the weapon. The execution was led by Bhagina Masum. On the evening of 17 November, six assailants openly shot and killed Golam Kibria at a shop in Pallabi.

While fleeing, the armed criminals also fired upon local residents, seriously injuring a rickshaw puller. Locals subsequently apprehended a criminal named Johnny Bhuiyan and handed him over to the police.

The victim’s nephew, Niloy, claimed that Moshiur, the younger brother of top killer Mamun who is currently abroad, was the mastermind behind the murder.

One confesses in court

Meanwhile, investigation officer of the case, Inspector Mohammad Hanif of Pallabi Police Station, produced the previously arrested Johnny Bhuiyan in court on Tuesday. When Johnny agreed to give a confessional statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman recorded his testimony.

A prosecution department SI, Saiful Islam, confirmed that Johnny has been sent to jail.

Discussions with several officers from the Mirpur police reveal that the “Four Star Group” has established a reign of terror in the underworld. Top Mirpur criminals Killer Mamun, Ibrahim, Shahadat, and Muktar have formed this formidable group.

They are attempting to control the local criminal underworld from abroad, utilising new criminals and contract killers for drug trade and extortion.

Among them, Mamun is trying to become active in BNP politics in Pallabi, having previously been involved with Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal. Members of the “Four Star Group” have been instilling fear through shootings to establish their dominance.
