Anmol Bishnoi, one of India’s most-wanted organised crime fugitives and the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is being deported to India from the United States. He is linked to several major cases, including the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique and the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s home.
According to an earlier HT report, Anmol is expected to arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday, shortly after the US Department of Homeland Security informed Siddique’s family that he had been removed from America, reports Hindustan Times.
A native of Fazilka in Punjab, Anmol had been on the run for years, fleeing India via Nepal on a forged passport before travelling through Dubai and Kenya and eventually reaching the US. He was detained by American authorities last year, initiating the deportation process.
The National Investigation Agency lists him among India’s “most wanted” and has announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest. Officials say he faces at least 18 criminal cases in India, including the conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, the firing outside Salman Khan’s Bandra home and the killing of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala.
Baba Siddique murder:
Siddique was shot dead by three gunmen outside his son Zeeshan’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra East on 12 October last year. Soon after, Shubham Lonkar, believed to be linked to the Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility in a social-media post. Zeeshan later confirmed that Anmol had been named in the case and described him as a “threat to society,” demanding his interrogation and arrest.
Salman Khan home firing:
Anmol is also wanted in the case involving shots fired outside Salman Khan’s Bandra residence in April 2024, which investigators suspect was carried out on instructions from the Bishnoi network.
Moosewala killing:
In the May 2022 murder of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala, a Punjab Police special investigation team named Anmol as one of the conspirators. The SIT chargesheet states that he fled India on a fake passport weeks before the killing but helped plan the attack and arrange logistical support. Police also accuse him of supplying weapons to Siddique’s killers.
Global crime operations:
Investigators say Anmol played a key role in running the Bishnoi gang’s international operations. A Punjab Police dossier accessed by HT in 2024 states that he handled extortion networks, foreign investments and benami properties, both in India and abroad. He also invested in sports clubs, particularly kabaddi, and worked closely with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar under Lawrence Bishnoi’s command.
