BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has stated that there is no scope for reopening talks, as consensus has already been reached through extensive discussions at the National Consensus Commission and the charter has been signed.
He made the remarks on Friday while addressing a public rally organised by Chattogram City unit BNP to mark National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
Amir Khosru said, “BNP leaders have endured 17 years of struggle and emerged stronger. No blemish can be allowed on this BNP. It was this united BNP that brought about Sheikh Hasina’s fall. Our movement will continue until the next elections are held. The people of Bangladesh must see Tarique Rahman as Prime Minister. While internal political debates and differences may exist within the party, there would be no compromise on the party’s unified stance. This is a major test for us, and everyone must pass it.”
He added, “Today is the time to show those who try to block democracy and elections, and conspire against the nation, the strength of 7 November. That power must be used to defeat them.”
On the role of the National Consensus Commission, Khosru said, “The Commission’s job is to create unity. Wherever consensus is reached, matters are considered settled. In areas where consensus is not achieved, all parties have the right to present their demands to the people and secure parliamentary approval based on the public mandate. There is no opportunity to go beyond the agreed consensus.”
He urged party members to avoid engaging in confrontational politics stating, “The people of Bangladesh want peace, tolerant politics, and the ability to respect differing opinions. BNP believes in this culture.
Chattogram city BNP Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman presided over the meeting while BNP Chattogram Divisional Organising Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, and Chattogram Divisional Assistant Organising Secretary Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, among others, addressed it.
