Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Friday said the youth of Bangladesh have fought fascism that gripped the nation, now they will lead the country into a new future.
He made the remarks while addressing a reception ceremony for the newly elected representatives of the central student unions of four universities. The event, organised by Islami Chhatra Shibir, took place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
“We have seen in the past that student leaders elected to student unions were involved in immoral activities,” Shafiqur Rahman said. “This time, those elected must pass the test of honesty with cent per cent success. The nation will not accept even a marginal failure.”
He said expectations are high from the elected student leaders.
“Your responsibility is not limited to campus activities. You must embrace and fulfil the nation’s dream. The country is owed by the talented individuals of these universities, and we hope you will repay that debt.”
Expressing confidence in the newly elected student leaders, he said, “I believe you can shoulder the weight of this responsibility. The hope placed on the youth has suffered setbacks because of the mistakes of some individuals.
“I want this student parliament to restore that hope.”
Addressing the youth, Shafiqur said, “We want to place young people in the cockpit of this country.” He added, “You will pilot the nation, and we will stand behind you with prayers and strength. If you make mistakes, we will quietly correct you.
“If necessary, we will scold you. And if you still fail to listen, we will respectfully replace you with the support of the nation.”
The programme was presided over by Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Jahidul Islam.
Newly elected representatives from Dhaka University, Chattogram University, Jahangirnagar University and Rajshahi University attended the event, along with current and former leaders of Chhatra Shibir.
