Supporters of BNP leader Col (retd) Azimullah Bahar staged protests in the port city’s Fatikchhari area after he did not get nominated for the Chattogram-2 parliamentary seat. The protesters also blocked a major road.

His supporters began the demonstration at 5pm on Friday, burning tyres and blocking the Chattogram–Khagrachhari road in Fatikchhari Sadar. They kept the road blocked for one hour in Bibirhat before moving to Nazarirhat intersection to continue the blockade.

Vehicular movement on the road came to a halt due to the protest. The protesters lifted the blockade around 7:30pm the same day.

The demonstrators demanded immediate withdrawal of the announced nomination for the Fatikchhari seat, and the declaration of Colonel Azimullah Bahar as the new candidate.

On 3 November, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the party’s list of candidates for 237 seats. The central party nominated former joint convener of Chattogram North BNP Sarwar Alamgir for the Chattogram-2 (Fatikchhari) constituency.
