The dazzling Beaver Moon- November’s full moon- is set to illuminate the night sky at 6:19pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday, according to data released by NASA.
This year’s Beaver Moon is categorized as a supermoon, marking the second supermoon of 2025 following October’s Harvest Supermoon, reports NDTV.
A supermoon appears larger and brighter than usual because the moon is positioned closer to Earth in its orbit- approximately 221,816 miles (356,980 kilometres) away. Skywatchers across Bangladesh would be able to enjoy the view on both 4 and 5 November.
The moon rose around 5:30pm on Tuesday and it will appear around 5:31pm on Wednesday, emerging in the eastern horizon shortly after sunset. NASA suggests using binoculars or telescopes for a sharper, more detailed view.
During this celestial event, the Beaver Moon will be seen alongside several stellar companions- including the Pleiades and Hyades star clusters, the Orion constellation, and the planet Jupiter, enhancing the beauty of the night sky.
Explaining the moon’s traditional name, NASA said, “The name ‘Beaver Moon’ originates from both Native American and European customs.
Historically, November was the time when beavers prepared for winter, reinforcing their dams and gathering food. It was also the season when hunters trapped beavers for their thick pelts, used to make warm clothing.
In various Native American traditions, the November full moon also carries other names such as the Frost Moon, Freezing Moon, Trading Moon, and Snow Moon- though the latter is more commonly associated with February’s full moon.
The Beaver Moon 2025 thus promises not only a spectacular night sky display but also a glimpse into centuries-old cultural heritage linked to the rhythms of nature.
