A Tangail court on Sunday sentenced eight people to life imprisonment for the killing of a sexagenarian man in 2022.
Tangail Additional District and Sessions Judge Foysal Al Mamun handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Dabir Uddin, 65, and his five sons—Rafik Mia, 45, Tofazzal Hossain, 35, Maidan Ali, 33, Hashem Ali, 42, and Abdur Rahman, 38—along with Shilpi Begum, 32, wife of Hashem Ali, and Hazrat Ali, 50, son of Insad Ali of Sadar upazila. Hashem Ali was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Mohammad Ali, 70, of Choto Binnafoir (Charpara) village in Sadar upazila of Tangail, was stabbed and beaten to death by the convicts following a longstanding dispute over the demarcation of a boundary wall of their houses on 24 July 2022.
Following the incident, the victim’s daughter, Marjina Akter, filed a case with Sadar Police Station.
