At least eight students of Dhaka University (DU) were injured on Wednesday morning after a university bus lost control and crashed into the Moghbazar Flyover.
The incident occurred at approximately 8am as the DU student bus, named ‘Khonika’, was descending from the Elevated Expressway at the Rainbow Crossing. According to reports, the vehicle lost control, crushing several cars in front of it before hitting the flyover structure.
Assistant Proctor Mohammad Rafiqul Islam stated that the accident was triggered by a front tyre burst, which caused the bus to hit the divider. “By the infinite mercy of Allah, the vehicle did not overturn, and a major accident was averted,” he said.
Regarding the casualties, the assistant proctor confirmed that five of the eight injured students have already recovered after receiving first aid. Of the remaining three, two are currently under medical treatment, and one has been advised to take rest for several days.
In terms of damages and compensation, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam mentioned that the university would look into the matter from a position of responsibility and humanity. He added that the university authorities would consider providing compensation or any other necessary assistance if the affected parties come forward.
