A staggering 60,295 teaching posts remain vacant in MPO-listed schools and colleges nationwide, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon informed Parliament on Wednesday.
Replying to a question from NCP lawmaker Md Abul Hasanat Abdullah, the minister said “656 lecturer posts under the BCS (General Education) cadre in government colleges are unfilled. In addition, 2,410 non-cadre lecturer posts in recently nationalised colleges remain vacant.”
“1,349 principal and vice-principal positions are unoccupied in non-government MPO-listed colleges. Recruitment is underway for 1,344 vacant teaching posts in MPO colleges” the minister noted.
“The government has initiated several steps to fill these vacancies promptly,” he added.
Lecturer recruitment in government colleges is ongoing through the 45th, 46th, 47th, 49th and 50th BCS examinations. Meanwhile, teacher recruitment in MPO-listed institutions continues through the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) in a transparent and merit-based process.
An e-requisition notice to collect vacancy data was issued on 29 March 2026. Further actions will follow based on the responses received, Milon said.
The minister also disclosed that the 8th NTRCA recruitment examination-2026 (revised) has been arranged to fill 11,151 vacant posts of heads and assistant heads in MPO-listed institutions. The application process has already concluded.
He expressed confidence that these ongoing initiatives will accelerate the recruitment process and fill the existing gaps in the teaching workforce.
