Sixty teachers from 29 public and private universities have begun a three-month “Junior Faculty Professional Development Programme” at Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU). The programme was inaugurated on Sunday.
The programme is organised by GAU with support from the University Teachers Training Academy, Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project and University Grants Commission (UGC), said a press release.
UGC Chairman Mamun Ahmed attended the event as chief guest. He said acquiring new knowledge and effective learning methods through training would play an important role in building a prosperous Bangladesh, and that teachers could take the country much further by applying their skills and experience collectively.
GAU Vice-Chancellor G K M Mustafizur Rahman chaired the ceremony. He said, “Today’s teachers will show the path to tomorrow’s students. A teacher’s professional excellence is not only his own advancement- the future of a generation is tied to it.”
GAU Pro-VC Md Jahedur Rahman, GAU Treasurer and Course Director Md Safiul Islam Afrad and HEAT Project Director Asaduzzaman were also present at the event.
UGC member Masuma Habib, University Teachers Training Academy Dean Layla Nur Islam and Dhaka University Library Science and Information Systems Department’s professor Muhammad Mejbahul Islam attended as special guests.
