A meeting was held this afternoon at the Prime Minister’s Office between officials of the US Embassy in Bangladesh and Mahdi Amin, adviser to the prime minister and spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, to discuss increasing the number of prestigious Fulbright scholarships for Bangladesh and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the education sector.

A delegation from the US Embassy, led by Chargé d’Affaires Eric Geelan, attended the meeting. The delegation also included Public Diplomacy Officer Scott Hartmann and Sitaram Surin.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on advancing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the United States in the education sector.

The central focus was on mechanisms to annually increase Fulbright scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students, alongside securing a higher number of scholarships for government officials.

Moreover, in-depth talks took place regarding teacher training, expanding student and teacher exchange programmes, and the role the United States can play in broadening language education and skill development in Bangladesh.

The meeting also addressed providing scholarships for research that enables students to contribute to addressing local challenges in sectors such as health, agriculture, urbanisation, industry, education, infrastructure development, and technology.

Additionally, both sides discussed improving the overall quality of the education sector, strengthening institutional ties, and involving Bangladeshi students and alumni studying in the United States more extensively in national development activities.
