The administration has identified 574 out of 805 polling centres across six parliamentary constituencies in Brahmanbaria as risky ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election.
Of these centres, 482 have been categorised as ‘risky’, while the remaining 92 are considered ‘highly risky’. District Collector (DC) and Returning Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan confirmed that these locations will be subject to enhanced security measures.
According to the district election office, several factors were weighed to determine the risk levels, including the local social context, the prevalence of riots in specific areas, and the quality of communication and transport infrastructure.
Furthermore, officials analysed past election-related incidents to identify the 574 centres requiring extra vigilance.
Regarding security protocols, Sharmin Akter Jahan stated that CCTV cameras will be installed at every polling station. Following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, there will be an increased deployment of Police and Ansar members at risky centres. Locations deemed highly risky will receive additional support from striking teams, the Army, and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
A total of 48 candidates, including those from various political parties and independents, are contesting the seats in Brahmanbaria. The district has a total of 2,608,087 voters.
