Five more children have died from measles and measles-related complications across Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Friday morning, bringing the national death toll to 211.
The Health Department’s Integrated Control Centre confirmed that three deaths were officially recorded, while two others remain under investigation.
In addition to the fatalities, 1,115 new suspected cases of measles have been identified, with laboratory tests confirming 127 new infections.
The total number of confirmed measles-related deaths over the past month has risen to 37, while 174 suspected deaths have been reported. As of the latest data, there are 21,467 suspected cases, with 3,192 confirmed as measles infections following lab tests.
Dhaka Division remains the hardest hit by the outbreak, with 515 new suspected cases reported in the last 24 hours alone. The division has recorded a total of 80 deaths so far. Other regions are also seeing a rise in infections, including Rajshahi Division, which has reported 4,171 suspected cases, and Chittagong Division, which has 2,807 suspected cases.
Currently, 13,898 patients are hospitalised across the country, while 11,243 have recovered and been discharged after receiving treatment.
In response to the worsening outbreak, the government has strengthened the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026.
Authorities reported that by the special vaccination campaigns held on 5 and 12 April, 103 percent of the targeted children had been vaccinated.
Mymensingh City Corporation achieved the highest vaccination coverage at 119 percent, followed by Chittagong City Corporation with 116 percent. However, vaccination coverage in Dhaka North City Corporation remains lower at 89 percent.
The Health Department continues to stress the importance of vaccinations in controlling the spread of measles and rubella, urging parents to ensure their children are vaccinated.
