Five people, including four members of a family from Lakshmipur, were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia while returning home after performing Umrah.
Mizan’s elder brother Baharul Alam confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday.
The victims are expatriate Mizanur Rahman Mizan, 40, his wife Farzana Akter Sumi, 30, their daughter Meher Afroz, 13, and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Subha Akter. Meher Afroz was a sixth-grade student at Tewri High School.
Mizan was from Nalchara village of Vatra union in Lakshmipur’s Ramganj upazila.
Another victim, Md Jilani Babar, was the driver of the same vehicle in which they were travelling. Jilani, son of Abul Hossain Patwari Khoka, was from Bishnupur village of the same union.
Mizan’s other daughter Faiza Akter, 11, was critically injured in the accident and admitted to a hospital in Jeddah.
Baharul said Mizan was an expatriate in Saudi Arabia. On 3 February, he went for Umrah with his wife and three daughters. Five days ago, the family left their residence in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
On Sunday night, while returning home from Jeddah, their vehicle met with a fatal accident, causing the casualties.
Mizan’s cousin Rifatul Islam told journalists that they heard the tragic news from Parvez Bhuiyan, a Saudi expatriate from a neighbouring village.
Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farashid Bin Enam said, “We have heard that five people died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia. We express our condolences to the bereaved family. We will extend all possible assistance to bring the bodies back to the country.”
