BNP has welcomed the opposition’s decision to form a shadow cabinet, said BNP’s standing committee member of Salahuddin Ahmed.
Speaking to reporters outside the BNP’s Gulshan office on Monday, Salahuddin said the Election Commission (EC) holds the mandate to conduct national parliamentary and presidential elections.
Due to the absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) will administer the oath to the new members of parliament, a ceremony expected to take place on Tuesday.
On the issue of swearing in the constitutional reform council, Salahuddin said the current constitution does not grant the CEC the authority to administer their oath.
He added that if constitutional amendments are made to specify the process and the oath-taking authority, then the reform council members can be sworn in accordingly.
Meanwhile, another BNP standing committee member, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, highlighted the country’s pressing challenges across sectors.
He pointed out that the economy, education, and healthcare systems are all facing significant crises.
Asked about the new cabinet’s composition, Amir Khosru said he is not yet aware of the ministerial appointments, adding that the final list has yet to be announced.
