Bangladesh ‘A’ Women secured a back to back victory by defeating Thailand Women with one ball to spare in the Asia Cup Rising Stars on Monday in Bangkok.
Chasing 104 at the Terdthai Cricket Ground, Bangladesh held their nerve in the final over to seal a three wicket win. The result also confirmed a semi final spot for Fahima Khatun’s side with one group match still left against Malaysia.
Bangladesh needed 12 runs in the last over. Shorifa Khatun took a single from the first ball to give Farjana Easmin the strike. Farjana changed the match in three balls. She struck a four off the second delivery and then launched a six over long off on the third ball. She was bowled on the next ball after tying the scores, but Jannatul Ferdus finished the job with a single off the fifth delivery.
Earlier, Bangladesh faced trouble in the chase. They lost Ishma Tanjim, Sarmin Sultana and Rubya Haider early with only 11 runs on the board. Shamima Sultana rebuilt the innings with a steady 26. Lata Mondal supported well and scored 30 from 40 balls to keep the chase alive.
Thailand had posted 103 for nine after choosing to bat. Natthakan Chantham scored 24 at the top, while Nannapat Koncharoenkai made 34 to anchor the innings. Fahima Khatun and Shorifa Khatun led the bowling effort with two wickets each as Bangladesh kept the total within reach.
Bangladesh had earlier started the tournament with a last ball win over Sri Lanka. With two wins from two matches, they now move into the knockout stage with confidence.
