Four members of the police have been closed (withdrawn) following an incident in which a Dhaka University (DU) student was allegedly assaulted during an anti-narcotics drive at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Masud Alam confirmed the development on Tuesday evening.
He said the incident occurred after a verbal altercation between the student and police personnel escalated.
“An unfortunate situation arose due to excesses on both sides during an exchange of words,” he stated.
The four officers who were on duty at the time have been withdrawn, and departmental proceedings will be initiated against them, the DC added.
