The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested four members of a robbery gang while they were allegedly preparing to rob a house near Hatirjheel of Dhaka.
Police recovered two foreign-made pistols, two magazines, five rounds of ammunition, a toy pistol, three machetes, five crude bombs, a spike dagger and two identity cards of a film shooting unit from their possession.
The arrestees were identified as Md Rakib, Md Rashedul Hawlader, Md Jubayer Islam and Bijoy Sarkar alias David.
DB Additional Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed the information at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday afternoon.
He said the DB Gulshan Division learnt through intelligence that a robbery was being planned at a house near Hatirjheel in the capital.
A six-member organised robbery gang was planning to loot gold and other valuables from the house. As part of the preparations, members of the gang had surveyed the area a day before the planned robbery.
After the matter came under intelligence surveillance, information was gathered about the locations and movements of the gang members. The DB Gulshan Division subsequently conducted a special operation and arrested four members of the six-member gang.
The DB chief also said Rakib had 10 robbery and drug-related cases filed against him with different police stations in the capital, while Bijoy had six such cases.
Police are working to arrest the two other members of the gang who remain at large, he added.
