The testimony of 39 witnesses was concluded at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Monday in a case involving deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun for crimes against humanity committed during the mass uprising in July 2024.
The three-member panel of ICT-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, has set September 9 for the next round of testimony.
Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who is currently detained, appeared before the tribunal as a state approver and the 36th witness in the case.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, along with prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi SH Tamim, represented the prosecution, while state-appointed lawyer Amir Hossain defended Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Lawyer Zayed Bin Amzad represented Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
The tribunal had previously ordered the initiation of the trial against the three individuals after framing charges against them on July 10. Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun filed a petition to become a state approver, which the tribunal accepted.
Sheikh Hasina is also facing charges in two other cases of crimes against humanity. One involves accusations of enforced disappearances during her 15-year rule, while the other concerns mass killings during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in the capital.
Multiple complaints have been submitted at the tribunals for alleged crimes committed during the Mass Uprising of July 2024. The two tribunals are currently conducting trials related to these cases.
