BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that, in the future, the people of Bangladesh will be the source of BNP’s political power.
He made this remark while virtually attending as the chief guest at the biennial conference of Thakurgaon District BNP on Monday afternoon.
Tarique Rahman said, “People did not have the right to give their opinion on how the country should be run. Millions of false cases were filed, and enforced disappearances and killings were commonplace. Opposition party leaders and workers have had to wander around court corridors, and the election system was destroyed.”
“However, in the future, the people will be the source of BNP’s political power,” he said.
The BNP acting chairman added, “Through the sacrifices of many people, today’s Bangladesh is free from autocrats. The expected fall of the autocrat by the people of Bangladesh has occurred; people now expect to build the country.”
“Various political parties are making various statements on different issues. If presenting these statements creates a chaotic situation in the country or conditions for the return of autocracy, it will not bring good results for the country and its people. It is the people will choose who will run the country in the coming days. Those whose principles and ideals the people prefer will decide how to govern the country. If political parties continue to create division instead of discussing or reaching out to the people, it may lead to the return of autocracy,” he said.
Pointing out that BNP is currently the largest political party in Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman said, “We presented to the people two and a half years ago the 31-point basis on which the BNP would run the country if it forms the government. Trust the people; let the people decide.”
Tarique Rahman also called upon leaders and activists to remain alert: “As a political party, our responsibility is to ensure that no one disrupts democracy.”
Regarding the election, he said, “This election may not be as easy as it seems. As days pass, that apprehension is becoming a reality. BNP’s movement will not stop until the country gets back on the track of democracy. If BNP is able to form the government through the people’s desired election verdict in the coming days, the country will be run based on the 31-point agenda. BNP is determined to thwart conspiracies against Bangladesh and build a beautiful country.”
The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, and other national executive committee leaders were present during the conference.
Earlier, at the biennial conference, the election implementation committee declared Mirza Faisal Amin as president and Paygam Ali as general secretary.
