Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali stated on Monday that 37 polling centres in the capital have been identified as “risky”.
Speaking at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre regarding security plans for elections and referendums, the commissioner announced that body-worn cameras will be deployed at these high-risk locations.
According to the DMP chief, there are a total of 1,614 “important” centres within the DMP area, where four police personnel will be stationed at each site. Furthermore, 517 general polling centres will be guarded by three police members each.
Regarding the high-risk zones, the commissioner detailed that the 37 vulnerable centres will see a heightened security presence of seven police personnel per centre, along with the use of body-worn cameras.
The commissioner also informed that 25,000 DMP members have undergone specific training for the elections. To address any emergency situations, the DMP’s Special Reserve Force, Bomb Disposal Unit, and Dog Squad will remain on standby.
