A total of 3,263 doctors have joined the 48th Special BCS Health cadre, marking one of the largest recruitment drives in the health sector in recent years.
Of them, 2,984 joined as assistant surgeons and 279 as assistant dental surgeons, according to a press release.
A joining programme was held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Centre in Shahbagh to mark the induction.
Ministry of Health Special Assistant Md Sayedur Rahman said recruiting such a large number of doctors within a short time is a milestone for the sector.
He said the entire process, from creating the posts to final recruitment and joining, was completed during the tenure of the interim government.
He expressed hope that the newly appointed doctors would play a key role in ensuring healthcare services for marginalised communities.
He said postings would be made on the basis of merit and humanitarian considerations.
Explaining the human aspects of posting, he said priority for the same workstation would be given to couples where both spouses are government employees.
He added that doctors suffering from incurable diseases would also receive special consideration in postings.
He said the doctors, selected through a transparent and fair process, are expected to bring positive changes to healthcare services at the upazila level.
Earlier, Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum inspected the joining proceedings.
Health Secretary Saidur Rahman and Directorate General of Health Services Director General Abu Jafar were present at the programme.
