Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, spokesperson for the NCP, on Sunday said the opinions of political parties he described as “slaves of Delhi” hold no significance in the politics of Bangladesh.

Speaking to journalists after offering prayers at the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayed in Pirganj, Rangpur, Asif addressed concerns raised by the Jatiya Party (JaPa) regarding the lack of a fair environment for the upcoming referendum.

He mentioned that all major political parties, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the NCP, are in favour of the “Yes” vote, but the rhetoric of parties subservient to external powers is irrelevant.

Regarding his party’s strategy, Asif explained that the NCP has initiated a nationwide march to build public opinion in favour of national reforms.

He noted that while the party has fielded candidates in 30 seats, they have appointed ambassadors for the “Yes” vote in the remaining 270 constituencies, ensuring their electoral activities span all 300 seats.

On the issue of a level playing field, the spokesperson alleged that attempts are being made to provide special advantages to a particular party.

He highlighted the killing of a Jamaat-e-Islami Upazila Secretary as a matter the NCP is closely monitoring. Asif further warned that any attempt to conduct a conspiratorial election would be met with firm resistance.

The NCP delegation also included Monira Sharmin, member secretary of NCP Election Management Committee; Advocate Tarikul Islam, convener of Jubo Shakti; Sakib Mahdi, joint chief organiser; and Yasir Arafat, media secretary of the NCP Election Management Committee.
