3 Bangladeshis among 4 killed in NY road crash

Four people, including three Bangladeshis, were killed in a head-on collision near Albany in the Upstate region of New York, USA. The accident occurred at approximately 5am Bangladesh time on Tuesday when two vehicles collided.

Among the deceased, two were identified as Mohammad Hiramon, 60, and his son Nazmul M Rubel, 30, who hailed from Koraibari village in the Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla. The third Bangladeshi victim was Fahim Halim, a friend of Rubel. The accident reportedly took place while the family was travelling from New York City to Upstate.

Fatema Akter Ratna, 36, the eldest daughter of the deceased Hiramon, and her four-year-old daughter, Iqra Ayat, sustained serious injuries in the crash. They are currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a local hospital. An occupant of the other vehicle involved in the collision also lost their life.

Family members, including Hiramon’s younger son Mohammad Azmul Rabbi, and local residents of Koraibari village confirmed that Hiramon was the son of the late Harunur Rashid. According to family sources, Hiramon had been residing in New York City since 2018 with his wife, Najma Akter, and their children.

The funeral prayers (Janaza) for the deceased are scheduled to be held at the Baitul Aman Islamic Centre in the Bronx on Wednesday following Zuhr prayers.
