25 hurt in clash between two groups in Meherpur

At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over establishing supremacy in Saharbati village of Meherpur’s Gangni upazila on Monday night.

The violence erupted around 8:30pm between groups led by locals Dabir Hossain and Forman Ali.

Those injured from Forman Ali’s group include Asmaul Husna, 26, Mukul Hossain, 45, Asif Hossain, 25, Tokul Hossain, 50, Shariful Islam, 43, Hamidul Islam, 50, Ainal Haque, 60, and Borkat Ali, 40. From Dabir Hossain’s group, the injured are Ria Khatun, 40, Mithun Ali, 32, Ujjal Hossain, 38, Muntaz Ali, 50, Shariful Islam, 43, and Rafiqul Islam, 60.

Police said 15 of the injured were admitted to Meherpur General Hospital, while the rest were taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.

Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge Uttam Kumar Das said police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Law enforcers have since been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
