A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of two vessels owned by Md Monir Hossain, former assistant personal secretary (APS) to ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the ACC petition, the two vessels are worth Tk10 crore. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez issued the order on Thursday after granting the ACC’s request, submitted by ACC Assistant Director Md Nasrullah Hossain.
The petition stated that Monir Hossain possessed illegally acquired wealth and made suspicious transactions of over Tk31 crore with the intent to launder money. Investigators found that he owns two vessels – MV Sailor-1 and MV Sailor-2 – valued at Tk 10 crore.
ACC sources said the accused had attempted to sell or transfer the assets, raising concern that the properties could be misappropriated before the case’s resolution. The commission therefore sought the court’s order to freeze the assets.
The ACC’s integrated district office, Dhaka-1, filed the case against Monir Hossain on 19 October 2024. As per the court’s directive, the Department of Shipping’s director general has been assigned to execute the seizure order.
