The measles situation across Bangladesh continued to worsen as the country recorded two more deaths and 1,069 new infections in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest DGHS press release said 961 suspected measles patients were identified between 8:00am on Thursday and 8am on Friday, while 108 patients were confirmed with the infection.
Both of the newly reported deaths were from the Sylhet division.
Data from the DGHS Integrated Control Centre showed the deceased were residents of Sunamganj and Moulvibazar districts. Since 15 March, the total number of suspected measles-related deaths has reached 379 across the country, including 74 deaths confirmed to have been caused by measles.
Dhaka recorded the highest number of suspected cases in the last 24 hours, with 472 patients identified and 100 infections confirmed. Chattogram reported 167 suspected cases, followed by Barishal with 129 and Sylhet with 55.
In Khulna, 55 new patients, while Mymensingh recorded 44 cases, Rajshahi 37 and Rangpur two.
Hospital data showed 41,028 patients have been admitted since 15 March.
In the last 24 hours alone, 852 new patients were hospitalised, while 590 recovered patients were discharged.
So far, 36,645 people have returned home after recovery.
Between 15 March and Friday, the total number of suspected measles patients in the country rose to 56,572, while confirmed infections reached 7,524.
