The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 18 Rohingyas for living illegally outside the camps in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar. Among those detained are 12 men and six women.
RAB-15 conducted a special drive in the Balukhali Moragachtala area of Palongkhali Union in the upazila and arrested them.
As part of the drive, a team from RAB-15 CPC-2 Whykong Camp, acting on intelligence, raided several rented homes in the Balukhali Moragachtala area of Ukhiya on Saturday night and arrested 18 Rohingya from five families who were living there illegally.
Cox’s Bazar RAB-15 Commander Lt Col Md Kamrul Hasan said, “Rohingya living illegally outside the camps are getting involved with various criminal networks. This is putting law and order at risk in the area. RAB is working with a zero-tolerance policy on this issue.”
Stating that regular drives will continue to prevent Rohingyas from living outside the camps illegally, he said, “Landlords who are renting houses to Rohingya illegally will also be brought under the law.”
He further said that the process is underway to hand over the detainees to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal action.
