Twelve more people died from measles and related symptoms in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 451 nationwide, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new deaths, four were confirmed measles cases, while eight were suspected cases.
Among the 451 deaths, 74 were laboratory-confirmed cases, while 377 were suspected cases since March 15.
The DGHS reported that from 15 March to 15 May, 55,611 suspected measles cases were recorded, including 7,416 confirmed cases. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,192 new suspected cases were identified and 111 new confirmed cases were detected.
Meanwhile, 1,016 patients were admitted to hospitals, and 1,087 patients recovered and were discharged during this period.
The Dhaka division, including the capital, remains the hardest hit. In the past 24 hours, the region reported 555 new suspected cases, 98 confirmed cases, and five deaths—three suspected and two confirmed measles cases.
Other divisions reported fewer fatalities- Chattogram recorded three suspected and one confirmed death, Barishal and Sylhet each had one suspected and one confirmed death, and Mymensingh had one suspected death. No deaths were reported in Rajshahi, Khulna, or Rangpur divisions.
Since the outbreak began, 40,176 measles patients have been hospitalized, and 36,055 have recovered and been discharged. Khulna division alone reported 104 recoveries in the past 24 hours, highlighting effective treatment efforts in the region.
The government’s Measles-Rubella Campaign 2026 continues to expand nationwide. So far, 18,191,734 children have been vaccinated, surpassing the target with 101 percent coverage. In the past 24 hours, 43,856 children received vaccinations, with city corporation areas achieving 104 percent of their targets. Chattogram, Gazipur, and Sylhet city corporations reported notable vaccination progress during this period.
Authorities are urging parents to vaccinate their children promptly and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms appear.
