Bangladesh Railway has announced the operation of 10 special trains ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to help manage the surge in passenger demand and reduce overcrowding on regular intercity services.
Railway authorities said the special services will start running on different routes from Sunday as part of the Eid travel management plan.
The trains will operate on routes including Chandpur, Dewanganj, Kishoreganj and Parbatipur.
Officials said the additional services aim to ensure smoother travel during the holiday rush, while further steps are being taken to improve station management and passenger facilities.
Under the schedule, Chandpur Eid Special-1 and 2 will operate on the Chittagong–Chandpur route from 25 May until the day before Eid. The service will resume after Eid from 30 May to 1 June. One train will depart Chittagong at 3:30pm and reach Chandpur at 8:20pm, while the return trip will leave Chandpur at 4am and arrive in Chittagong at 8:50am.
Teesta Eid Special-3 and 4 will run on the Dhaka–Dewanganj route during the same period. The train will leave Dhaka at 9:30am and arrive in Dewanganj at 4:10pm. The return service will depart at 4:30pm and reach Dhaka at 10:20pm.
Two Sholakia special trains will operate on Eid day for passengers travelling to Kishoreganj. On the Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj route, one train will depart at 6am and reach at 8am, while the return service will leave at 12pm and arrive at 2pm.
Another service, Sholakia Eid Special-7, will operate from Mymensingh to Kishoreganj on Eid day. It will leave Mymensingh at 5:45am and reach Kishoreganj at 8:30am. The return journey will depart at 12pm and arrive in Mymensingh at 3pm.
For northern passengers, Parbatipur Eid Special-9 and 10 will operate on the Joydebpur–Parbatipur route from 24 to 26 May before Eid. The train will leave Joydebpur at 7pm and arrive in Parbatipur late at night, while the return service will operate in the morning and reach Joydebpur in the afternoon.
After Eid, the schedule will change, with trains departing Joydebpur at 8:15am and reaching Parbatipur at 2:50pm. The return service will leave Parbatipur at 10:20pm and arrive in Joydebpur the following morning.
Railway officials added that further steps are being taken to strengthen station management and improve passenger services to ensure a more comfortable Eid journey.
