Zimbabwe reached 350 for 5 at tea on the second day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Harare, taking a commanding 210-run first-innings lead.
A brilliant 140 from Innocent Kaia and 59 by Brian Bennett helped the hosts cruise past Bangladesh’s total of 140. Starting the second session with a lead of 109, Zimbabwe lost three wickets but maintained control of the innings. Bennett, who shared a 107-run stand with Kaia, handed Taijul Islam a return catch shortly after lunch.
The left-arm spinner struck again to remove maiden centurion Kaia, who attempted to flick a flighted delivery to the leg side but was caught at silly mid-off.
Tafadzwa Tsiga was then run out for one following a mix-up with captain Craig Ervine.
However, Ervine and Wessly Madhevere steadied the innings with an unbroken 70-run partnership to keep Zimbabwe firmly on top.
Earlier, Bangladesh were bowled out for 140 in their first innings despite a fighting effort from Mominul Haque. The visitors suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their last eight wickets for just 27 runs as Zimbabwe’s pace attack proved too strong.
