Zia Udyan and the National Martyrs’ Memorial have been placed under tight security ahead of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s scheduled visits on Friday.
After the Jummah prayers, Tarique Rahman will leave his residence in Gulshan to visit the grave of his father, former president Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in Dhaka. He will later go to the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay tribute.
Party sources said he is expected to travel in a red-and-green bus bearing the slogan “Bangladesh first”.
Additional police, along with members of the Border Guard Bangladesh and the army, have been deployed in and around the Zia Udyan area.
Extra security arrangements have also been put in place at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar.
Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh last Thursday after spending 17 years in exile in London, accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman.
After arriving at the airport, he travelled by a red-and-green bus to a reception venue at the capital’s 300 Feet area, where he addressed party leaders and activists.
He later visited BNP chairperson and his mother Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara before spending the night at his Gulshan residence.
