Actor Zahid Hasan believes Argentina hold a slight edge over Spain ahead of tonight’s FIFA World Cup final, although he expects a closely contested match between the two sides.
Sharing his thoughts on the final, Zahid said both teams have been in outstanding form throughout the tournament, making it difficult to predict the eventual winner.
“It is one of those matches where either team can win. Both have played excellent football. But I think Argentina has a slight advantage. Their experience, understanding as a team and ability to handle big matches could make the difference,” he said.
The actor added that finals often produce unexpected outcomes, regardless of a team’s form leading up to the match.
“A single mistake can change the result of a final. I am looking forward to watching a highly competitive game,” he said.
Asked to predict the scoreline, Zahid admitted it was difficult but offered two possible outcomes.
“I feel the match could end 1-0, with Argentina scoring the only goal. Then again, I also think it could finish 5-4 in Argentina’s favour,” he said.
A long-time football fan, Zahid has supported Argentina since the days of Diego Maradona.
He said he hopes Lionel Messi can lift another World Cup trophy.
When asked how many goals Messi might score in the final, Zahid said the team’s victory would matter more than individual achievements.
“Everyone will want Messi to help Argentina win rather than focus on scoring. He may not score at all in the final,” he said.
Zahid also said he has been impressed by Argentina’s performances in this year’s tournament.
While expectations have always been high for Messi, he believes the captain has exceeded them in the closing stages of the competition.
The World Cup final between Argentina and Spain is scheduled to kick off tonight at 1:00 am Bangladesh time.
