Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, director general of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Department, has called upon all personnel to give the highest priority to their professional responsibilities.
The director general made these remarks on Sunday during “Director General’s Commendation” ceremony held at the FSCD headquarters at 10am.
A total of 136 selected officers and employees from across the country were awarded the commendation for their exceptional contributions to administrative and operational tasks.
Upon his arrival, Kamal was received with a respectful salute by Lt Col MA Azad Anwar, director (training, planning and development).
Before the formal proceedings began, the assembly observed a one-minute silence to seek eternal peace for the soul of the recently deceased diver Sadik.
The event then officially commenced with recitations from holy scriptures by religious teacher Muhaddith Kazi Sharifulah.
Following a welcome address by the director (training, planning and development), the director general presented the commendation insignia, certificates, and monetary awards to the 136 recipients.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Jakir Hossain, deputy assistant director of Netrokona District, expressed his gratitude for the introduction of the award and lauded the director general’s diligent monitoring of administrative and operational activities nationwide.
The Director (Administration and Finance) Md Shahid Atahar Hossain also addressed the gathering.
In his keynote speech, the director general expressed his satisfaction with FSCD’s operational responses to various accidents across the country. He specifically praised the department’s comprehensive efforts during the recent floods and landslides in the Chittagong region.
Emphasising the department’s mandate to protect life and property, he said, “As a service-oriented institution, the Fire Service and Civil Defence must accord the highest importance to the discharge of professional duties”.
During the ceremony, Lt Col Md Mahmadul Hasan, director (operations and maintenance), urged all personnel to remain cautious regarding the use of social media.
The event was attended in person by project director, managing director of Welfare Trust, and officials of all levels stationed in Dhaka.
Additionally, divisional deputy directors and district officers from across the country participated in the ceremony virtually. The programme concluded at 12:30pm.
