The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) has sought accountability from the university administration regarding the role of proctor’s office following recent posterings and processions by the banned Chhatra League on the university campus.
A delegation, led by Cucsu General Secretary Sayed Bin Habib, met with the Proctor Professor Hossain Shaid Shohrowardhy on Sunday, to submit several demands, including the initiation of swift legal action against those involved in these activities.
During the meeting, Habib said Chhatra League had been observed putting up posters on campus as recently as yesterday.
He emphasised that any activity by the banned Chhatra League is a criminal offence throughout Bangladesh, yet the group has held processions and put up posters in several locations.
He noted that individuals who had previously organised processions on campus were seen participating again.
Habib expressed concern over the lack of visible action from the authorities, stating that although the Proctor and security personnel were informed, no effective measures had been implemented.
He mentioned that while the proctor claimed to have communicated with Hathazari Police Station, they also failed to take any effective action.
Considering the situation, Cucsu has placed several demands before the administration, including that the university administration must act as the plaintiff in filing cases related to these incidents and ensure the immediate arrest of all individuals involved.
The union also called for the administration to take initiatives to ensure the maximum punishment under the existing laws of the country and to implement effective measures to control the entry of outsiders into the campus, except for residents.
In response to these demands, proctor stated that the proctorial body is performing its duties with awareness.
He assured the delegation that the vice-chancellor would be informed of Cucsu demands and that appropriate measures would be taken in coordination with the security department and the administration.
The delegation at the proctor’s office also included Md Ishaq Bhuiyan (secretary of Communication and Housing), Monayem Sharif (secretary of Liberation War and Democratic Movement), Masum Billah (secretary of Cafeteria and Library), and executive members Sohanur Rahman Sohan and Salman Farsi Sakib.
