Yunus said, “This attack was carried out with pre-planning. I am in regular contact with the family. I am regularly inquiring about Hadi’s treatment. I have also spoken with the political parties. They are also assisting.”

The chief adviser inquired about each Rokeya Padak recipient’s respective workplace and other matters.

Rokeya Padak recipient for women’s rights (labour rights), Kalpana Akter, specially thanked the chief adviser for changing the labour law and signing the labour convention. She said, “Changing the labour law and the convention – both are historic steps. Thank you for doing this in such a short time.”

She further said, “During the previous government, I was harassed with lawsuits. 14 cases have been filed against me. I have been made an accused in unrealistic incidents like stealing glasses from Gulshan’s Navana Tower. No one ever thought before that someone doing trade union work, working for labour rights, would receive the Rokeya Padak. I thank the interim government for this.”

The CA said, “Kalpana Akter is a strong woman, she always speaks the just word. She is respected by everyone worldwide.”

“After the Rana Plaza tragedy, nothing that should have been done was done. Labour rights and the convention were among my priorities. The effort was to do as much as I could before leaving,” said the chief adviser.

He inquired from Kalpana Akter about various issues including workers’ wages, work environment, and discussed the implementation of the labour law.

The chief adviser inquired about the overall condition of icddr,b (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh) from researcher Dr Rubhana Rakib.

The chief adviser said, after foreign aid stopped, the institutions most affected were icddr,b and the Rohingyas. He also said the government is continuously holding discussions on this matter.
