A businessman was stabbed to death following an argument during a community meeting in Chattogram’s Hathazari upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Rabiul Hossain Babu, 37, son of freedom fighter Jahurul Islam.
Two others, Emon and Tipu were also injured in the attack.
According to locals, a social arbitration meeting was convened near Nazirhat Bazar around 10pm on Friday night.
A heated exchange broke out during the discussion, leading to the stabbing of Rabiul.
He was rushed to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, locals apprehended the suspected attacker and handed him over to police.
Hathazari Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Tareq Aziz said the attack stemmed from an argument.
“Locals had already detained the suspect. We took him into custody. We are requesting residents not to take the law into their own hands,” he added.
Police have yet to disclose the identity of the suspect.
