Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,00,000 Yaba pills during three separate operations in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.
Commanding Officer of the Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) Lt Col Md Zahirul Islam confirmed the matter on Monday.
BGB sources said smugglers attempted to transport drugs in Palongkhali and Whykong BOP areas. During these operations, 70,000 and 10,000 Yaba pills were seized from Ulubania Majherkati and the Ulubania West Para Bridge area, respectively.
Another 20,000 pieces were confiscated at Kharangya Ghona, bringing the total recovery to 1,00,000 pills. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around Tk3 crore.
In a separate operation in Noakhali, a drug dealer named Afsar Uddin, 32, was arrested with 1,000 Yaba pills by the District Detective Branch (DB).
Officer-in-Charge (OC) District DB Md Mohiuddin confirmed the matter in a press release on Tuesday.
According to DB, acting on a tip-off, police searched a bus stationed in front of Messrs Abdul Haque Petrol Pump in ward number 3 of Lakshminarayanpur.
During the search, a chips packet wrapped with black adhesive tape was discovered in the left pocket of Afsar’s jeans, containing 1,000 Yaba tablets.
OC Mohiuddin said the process of filing a case against him under the Narcotics Control Act at Sudharam Model Police Station is underway.
