The Coast Guard detained two men for attempting to attack and rob tourists in the Sundarbans.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said a gang broke into the Sundari Eco Resort near Dhangmari canal in Dakop upazila of Khulna around 4am on Monday, intending to assault visitors and loot valuables.

Resort authorities chased the intruders, who fled, and later informed the Coast Guard.

Based on information, CCTV footage and intelligence surveillance, coastguards from the Mongla base launched a special operation in the area that afternoon.

Two suspects — Rajon Sardar, 25, and Ratan Sardar, 14, both residents of Dakop — were arrested.

Law enforcers said the suspects had long been involved in theft and robbery. They were handed over to Dakop police for legal action.

Lt Commander Sujon added that the Coast Guard will continue such operations to help maintain law and order in the country.
