As the world marks World Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May, several Bangladeshi celebrities have shared emotional reflections on the role of mothers in their lives, describing them as their greatest source of love, sacrifice and inspiration.
Bidya Sinha Mim, Actress
Bidya Sinha Mim described her mother as “the safest shelter in the world”, adding that a mother’s love cannot be confined to a single day. “Whatever I have achieved today, behind everything is my mother’s contribution,” she said.
Siam Ahmed, Actor
Siam Ahmed reflected on his childhood and his mother’s sacrifices as a working parent. He said he often felt lonely growing up because his mother had little time to spend with him due to work commitments.
“Later I realised that she endured all those struggles for me,” he said. “She worked hard thinking about my future. That is why today I am almost a barrister and a somewhat known actor.”
Kanak Chapa, Singer
Kanak Chapa spoke emotionally about her bond with her mother, saying, “My mother is more precious to me than oxygen.” She described her mother as her “dictionary, calendar, watch, encyclopedia and infinite wonder”, while offering greetings to mothers around the world.
Omar Sani, Actor
For Omar Sani, the month of May carries deep emotional significance for him as he was born in May and also lost his mother in the same month. He said, “I miss my mother at every step of my life,” recalling how she would wait for him late at night after his film shoots and even return money he had given her for medicine when he needed it the next morning.
Rumana Islam Mukti, Actress
Rumana Islam Mukti said becoming a mother herself had helped her understand the depth of a mother’s love even more profoundly. “Every day is Mother’s Day for me,” she said. “Whatever I have become today is because of my mother (actress Anowara) and her love and care.”
Akhi Alamgir, Singer
Akhi Alamgir credited her parents, particularly her mother, for supporting her throughout her musical journey. “It is because of my mother that I can see this beautiful world today,” she said.
Oindrila Ahmed, Actress
Oindrila Ahmed recalled her mother’s constant support throughout her career and personal life. She recalled how her mother accompanied her everywhere from school and dance classes to film shoots “I have never done a shoot in my life without her,” Aindrila said. “Whenever I speak to my mother on the phone, I always tell her that I love her.”
World Mother’s Day is celebrated annually to honour mothers and recognise their contributions, sacrifices and unconditional love.
